OUR CONSULTANTS

     April Craighead is a Senior Consultant with Biodiversity Unlimited LLC with expertise as a field ecologist. She also serves as a staff biologist for the Craighead Institute in Bozeman, Montana. Since joining the Craighead Institute in 2000, Mrs. Craighead has worked on a variety of research projects. She has a background in raptor ecology and more recently has focused on pika ecology and climate change.  Some American pika and climate change related projects include:

  • Resurveying Historic Pika Locations in Montana,

  • Changes in Alpine Plant Communities project, 

  • Montana Pika Survey (implementing a citizen science project for pikas in Montana)

  • Pika distributional surveys for Montana,

  • Resurveying historic pika locations,

  • Temperature monitoring at pika colonies for climate related analysis,

  • Genetic analysis and gene flow among pika communities.

  • Habitat connectivity in Alpine ecosystems in Montana

    

     Mrs. Craighead also has conducted road ecology projects on Interstate 90 and US Highway 287 in Montana, breeding bird surveys in Alaska and Montana, and grizzly bear and whale surveys in Alaska. She received a  B.A. in Ecology, Evolution and Behavior from the University of California, San Diego, and a M.S. in Biology from Montana State University investigating current and prehistoric mammal and raptor communities.
